Dili, 3 December 2015 – H.E. the President of the Republic, Taur Matan Ruak, thanked the people of the Special Administrative Region of Oecussi (RAEO) for their support and collaboration on the occasion of the commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the 500 years of interaction between two civilizations – Timor-Leste and Portugal – last week in Pante Makassar, Oecussi-Ambeno.
Speaking to journalists on his return to Dili on board a naval vessel which belongs to the F-FDTL, the Head of State thanked the people of Oecussi for their participation in the preparations, thus offering guests unique moments despite the heat and “some logistic shortcomings”.
H.E. the President also thanked the central government, namely the Prime Minister and the members of the government, in particular the Minister of Planning and Strategic Investment, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, and the president of the Special Administrative Region Authority of Oecussi-Ambeno, Dr Mari Alkatiri, and his team.
On the occasion, soldiers, Police members and civilians told the Head of State how they have contributed to the success of the festivities.
To conclude, the Head of State pointed out that this success was due to the cooperation and collaboration between all parties involved.
